Steel String Guitar with 13 Frets Clear of the Body
Scale Length 63 cm and Blue Top

Description

True Blue!

For this PT 59 our customer wished a blue top. It was particularly important that the grain should still remain visible. We achieved this result with a traditional wood stain and a thin layer of nitrocellulose lacquer. This way we omitted covering the tonal brilliance by covering the surface with polyurethane lacquer, which is very common with factory made colored guitars.

The blue top is probably the most striking feature of this custom order, but there are far more extras.

Suitable for Stage

For frequent on-stage appearances, string changing should be as easy and convenient as possible. D'Addario's Planet Waves Auto Trim Tuning Machines  cut off automatically the excess string while tuning. With a ratio of 18:1, they achieve greater precision than most standard tuners. They also guarantee a higher tuning stability even during the hardest playing.

13 Frets clear of the body

The least obtrusive but perhaps most unusual feature of this steel string guitar is the neck-body transition at 13th fret. For this PT 59 our customer wished the typical sound of a 12-fret guitar, but also did not want to miss the convenience in the high registers, as it is offered by a guitar with a transition at 14th fret. So we met in the middle and altered the bracing slightly in order to achieve the desired sound.

Pickup

PT 59 Custom is equipped with a McLoud pickup with volume control. As requested, we mounted the knob to the side. It's bright color of rosewood fits well to the mahogany used for back and sides. The output is positioned at the bottom parallel to the security lock.

Sound and Playability

Based on the body height of our customer a scale length of 63 cm was advised. Along with the flat string action and a nut width of 46 cm this guitar allows virtuosic and comfortable playing for small hands. The slightly reduced body size in combination with the unusual transition at the 13th fret produces a stunningly sweet sound in the highs, balanced mids and a subtle, yet expressive bass range. Despite it's size it has a powerful sound and thus also provides playing unamplified stage performances.
